Who am I?
I grew up in the small Victorian coastal town of Port Campbell. I am currently living in East Brunswick, teaching yoga and studying the Masters of Community Psychology.
Why Community Psychology?
My academic studies focused on psychology, social impact and cross-cultural learning. These studies raised questions of how to best support those in society who suffer from mental illness. I have become increasingly interested – personally, academically and professionally – in the influence of institutions and social structures on an individual’s mental health. Community psychology’s acknowledgement and emphasis on societal influences on individuals really appeals to me. At this stage my interest lies in the possibility of using education to increase social inclusion, equality, empathy and well-being.
Other things I enjoy are coordinating events to get people together to share experiences and ideas, movement (dancing, to netball to climbing to surfing), quizzes and cryptic crosswords.
